Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are predominantly used to substitute missing teeth. They are artificial tooth roots that are surgically planted in the jawbone below the gumline. The false tooth root is composed of titanium and is readily accepted by the adjoining bone structure. A screw connects the tooth root to a dental restoration to reinstate the tooth structure above the gum line.

Dental implants extend the most natural-looking and long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. They also keep the bone structure and facial contour intact, preserving your youthful look. At Radiant Dental Care in Pasadena, TX, we can help provide you with robust, beautiful, natural-looking dental implants that can last you a lifetime.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are considered the best tooth-replacement option because:

  • The dental implants feel, look and function like natural teeth.
  • They replace missing teeth and reinstate your self-confidence and self-image.
  • The titanium roots used are biocompatible and readily accepted by the body. Titanium assimilates with the natural bone through a process called osseointegration.
  • They prevent the degeneration and receding of the bones and gum tissues.
  • No other tooth-replacement option will ensure the protection of the bone and gum tissues.
  • They safeguard your healthy teeth from unnecessary pressure by evenly distributing the biting and chewing forces.
  • They prevent the adjoining teeth from shifting and moving into the gaps left by missing teeth, thus averting orthodontic complications.
  • They are easy to care for, and no additional oral care regimen is required to maintain the health of dental implants.
  • They improve your speech and renovate your chewing ability.
  • They do not weaken the neighboring restorations.

How Are Dental Implants Placed?

At Radiant Dental Care, the entire dental implant process needs three to six months to complete and is usually performed in two phases.

Phase One

Dr. Deborah Sprott will perform 3D scans and radiograph exams to determine the health of the jawbone and gum tissues. If you have adequate bone structure, we will drill an access hole in the jawbone. This is done to introduce the titanium root into the jaw. Then, we will seal the gum with dissolvable stitches.

Local anesthesia is administered at the beginning so there will be minimal pain or discomfort throughout the procedure. The titanium root takes about two to three months to integrate with the surrounding bone structure.

Phase Two

After the jawbone has healed and the gum tissues have successfully integrated themselves onto the implant's surface, your next phase of treatment begins. Dr. Deborah Sprott will extract some gum tissue from the implant surface and fix a screw over it. The screw attaches the implant to a dental restoration, usually a crown that restores the tooth structure above the gum line.
