Denture Care

Dentures are essentially your replacement teeth that help restore your smile and mouth functions. Therefore, it becomes vital that you follow a committed routine to ensure that your artificial teeth are being cared for well. At Radiant Dental Care in Pasadena, TX, we are concerned with our patients' denture health. So, if you need help with a service or repairs to your dentures, visit our denture care experts.

Accordingly, we also recommend a set of dos and don'ts for your denture care:

Handle Dentures with Care

Proper care should be taken while cleaning the dentures and should be handled gently. Keep in mind not to bend or damage the clasps or plastic during the cleaning.

Brush Dentures Daily

Methodically clean your dentures every day and make use of a soft denture brush, along with a mild denture cleaner. Smoothly brush them in circular motions with a little warm water to remove food, plaque, and other debris. If you use denture cement, thoroughly clean the grooves where you apply the cement to remove any residues.

Remove and Rinse Dentures After Meals

After every meal, run water over your dentures to remove any food particles and other debris. You can do this by putting a wrapped towel on the counter or sink to ensure that dentures do not break if you drop them. Alternatively, you can use a bowl to clean the dentures to avoid the risk of slipping and breaking them. And lastly, hold your dentures gently so that you do not cause any damage to them.

Wash Mouth After Removing Dentures

After removing the dentures, clean the tongue, cheeks, and palate of your mouth. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, brush off any residual denture adhesive from your gums.

Soak Dentures Overnight

The dentures have to be kept moist to maintain their shape, so soak them in water or a mild denture-soaking solution overnight before going to bed. In general, it is suggested to follow the manufacturer's instructions on cleaning and soaking solutions.

Rinse Dentures Before Wearing

Before wearing the dentures again in the morning, rinse them thoroughly, especially if you use a denture care solution. These solutions can contain harmful substances that cause vomiting, pain, or burns if ingested.

Plan Regular Dental Checkups

Plan your dental visits regularly to have your dentures checked and cleaned professionally. Our team will help ensure a proper fit for your dentures and help prevent discomfort. They will also examine the inside of your mouth to make sure it's healthy. In case the dentures come loose, visit us immediately.
