Root Canal Treatment

Tooth decay is a regular dental problem that requires prompt treatment to save the tooth and prevent infection. Root canal treatment is a standard dentistry procedure that helps remove the decay that has spread to the deepest layer.

At Radiant Dental Care in Pasadena, we routinely perform root canals to save your natural tooth. We provide a gentle and effective way to give root canal treatment that does not cause excessive pain or fear of the procedure. Most significantly, the root canal helps save the life of your tooth.

Why Are Root Canals Necessary?

It’s a matter of concern if you have an infection that has spread to your tooth’s roots. Without a root canal procedure, you would lose the tooth and need restorations such as a bridge or dental implant. While these options may replace your tooth, they cannot match the stability of an original tooth.

A root canal would help when the tooth’s pulp has an infection. This infection can be due to various reasons like decay and trauma. A hole or crack in the tooth also puts the integrity of the tooth’s roots at risk. These roots need to be cleaned to promote good oral health and save your tooth.

What Are the Symptoms of an Infected Root Canal?

In a root canal infection, you may suffer tooth pain when chewing, extreme sensitivity to hot or cold foods, or excessive swelling in the gums. Dr. Deborah Sprott can examine your mouth and tell if a root canal is necessary. Sometimes, you may not have any symptoms, yet an infection can be diagnosed upon examination.

What Is the Root Canal Process?

A root canal can be done in one appointment. Dr. Deborah Sprott will start by numbing the area with an anesthetic. Next, we will drill an opening in the tooth to gain access to the roots. Using root files, the roots are cleaned and rinsed out to remove all bacteria and debris. Finally, the area is filled with unique material and sealed to prevent any other bacteria or debris from entering the area.

To further strengthen the tooth, we can place a restoration such as a crown to prevent further harm to the affected tooth. With proper care and hygiene, the tooth can last for years and allow you to fully enjoy its functionality.

We want to make the root canal treatment as simple as possible for you. Call Radiant Dental Care in Pasadena, TX at (281) 991-6530 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Deborah Sprott. We will instruct you about the process, ensuring that you are comfortable during the procedure and help save your natural tooth.
